Marist Premier Men register first win of the season
5 October 2013 –
Rhys Mau turned in an outstanding performance on the mound to guide the Premier Team to an impressive 2-1 win against Roosters in round 2 of the competition. Captain Jerome Haretuku in his first outing of the season, took a customary diving catch in the outfield to add some real class to the lineup.
Kevy Cannons proved to be elusive on the base paths scoring a run after stealing both second and third and scoring on the overthrow in a demonstration of aggressive base running.
It was in the bottom of the 7th with the score locked at 1-1 that Kevy went from 1-3 on a sac bunt from Joseph Kohlhase and then scored on a wild pitch with pinch hitter Richard Long in the batters box.
This was a much needed win for the team after an indifferent game last week, however team spirit and sound basic softball was the feature of an excellent performance.
Earlier on in the day the Reserves battled out a hard fought game against Roosters finally going down 4-2 in a tight game.
16 year old Daniel Chapman was again very good on the mound and his combination with Matt Warner is growing with every game.
Logan Esau, Josh Passfield and Richard Long were the teams best hitters and another of the Clubs Junior stars, Noah Rudd made his senior debut off the bench.
Both teams have double headers next week against Howick and Eden at home – 10:00, 12:00, 2:00 & 4:00
